How ratings work
Every movie and show on this site carries its official rating. Movies are rated by the MPA. TV shows use the TV Parental Guidelines. Here is what each one means.
Movies
- GGeneral AudiencesAll ages admitted.Our filter: shows at “Little kids” and up
- PGParental Guidance SuggestedSome material may not be suitable for children.Our filter: shows at “Family” and up
- PG-13Parents Strongly CautionedSome material may be inappropriate for children under 13.Our filter: shows at “Teens” and up
- RRestrictedUnder 17 requires an accompanying parent or adult guardian.Our filter: shows only at “Everything”
- NC-17Adults OnlyNo one 17 and under admitted.Our filter: shows only at “Everything”

How our filter uses them
The content filter in My Preferences uses the official rating and nothing else. It does not use our grades, our flags or our opinion. A title with no rating is only shown when the filter is set to Everything, because we can't vouch for what we don't know.
A rating tells you a lot, but not everything. We can't catch everything either. Read the rating, check the details, and decide for your own family.
